The morning began like any other in the lantern‑lit branches of Aberlady. Dewdrops clung to the leaves like tiny crystal bells, chiming softly whenever a breeze wandered through. Flo was already awake, her pastel‑pink hair glowing faintly as her wings shimmered with a warm golden light. Excitement always made them glow — and today, she was practically a lantern herself.
“Sonny! Sonny, wake up!” she whispered loudly, hovering over her brother’s hammock. Sonny blinked, still half‑dreaming. “Flo… It’s barely sunrise.” “But I found something,” she said, eyes sparkling with mischief and wonder. “Something strange.” That woke him up.
Within moments, Sonny had strapped on his moss‑green tunic, tucked a map into his belt, and followed Flo out onto the high wooden walkway. She darted ahead, gliding silently with her Whisperflight ability, while Sonny kept pace with swift, precise wingbeats.
They reached the edge of the marsh overlook — their favourite spot — where the firefly lanterns still glowed faintly from the night before. “There,” Flo whispered, pointing.
Nestled between two roots was a trail of shimmering blue footprints, each one no bigger than a pebble. Sonny crouched, touching one gently. “Magical residue,” he murmured. “Fresh. Maybe an hour old.” Flo grinned. “Let’s follow it!”
“Flo…” Sonny hesitated. “We should tell someone.” “But then they’ll tell us to stay put,” she countered, hands on her hips. “And you know you want to see where it leads.” He did. Of course he did. And she knew it. With a sigh that was only half‑reluctant, Sonny nodded. “Fine. But we stay together.” Flo beamed. “Always.”
Into The Whispering Marsh
The trail led them down from the treetop village into the soft, misty marsh below. The air smelled of moss and morning rain. Flo flitted ahead, her wings glowing brighter with each new footprint they discovered.
Sonny followed closely, using his Trail Sense to keep track of the magical echoes. “Whatever made these… It’s small. Nervous. And lost.”

“Then we’ll help it,” Flo said confidently. But the marsh had other ideas. A sudden rustling made Flo jump. Her wings flashed gold. Sonny stepped in front of her instinctively, his Calm Aura settling the air around them.
From the reeds emerged a tiny creature — no bigger than Flo’s hand — with shimmering blue fur and trembling whiskers. Its eyes were wide with fear.

“A Marsh Miffin!” Flo gasped. “I’ve only seen drawings!” The little creature squeaked, hopping backwards. “It’s scared,” Sonny said softly. “Let me try.”
He knelt, extending a gentle hand. His Calm Aura flowed like warm sunlight, and slowly, the Miffin crept forward, sniffing his fingers. Flo giggled. “Aww… it likes you.” But before Sonny could respond, the ground beneath them trembled.
Bogwind Awakens
A low rumble echoed through the marsh. The reeds bent sharply as a gust of cold wind spiralled upward, forming a swirling column of mist and shadow.
“A Bogwind!” Sonny shouted. “It must’ve been chasing the Miffin!”

Flo’s wings flared with bright golden light. “We can’t let it catch him!” The Bogwind lunged, its swirling form reaching for the tiny creature. Flo darted forward, gliding silently behind it, and let out a burst of bright, magical laughter — her Charm of Cheer.
The Bogwind faltered, its swirling edges softening. “Nice one, Flo!” Sonny called, swooping in with hawk‑like speed. He circled the Bogwind, creating a vortex of warm air that disrupted its cold spiral.
The creature hissed, losing shape. “Again!” Flo shouted. She laughed — bright, joyful, fearless — and Sonny swept through the mist one final time. The Bogwind shuddered… then dissolved into harmless fog.
The marsh fell quiet. The Miffin hopped into Flo’s hands, nuzzling her cheek. “We did it,” she whispered.
“No,” Sonny corrected gently, smiling. “You did it. I just helped.” Flo rolled her eyes. “We did it together. Like always.”

Home Again
They returned to Aberlady with the Miffin perched happily on Sonny’s shoulder. The elders were astonished — both by the creature and by the bravery of the young siblings.
The Miffin was safely guided back to its habitat, and Flo and Sonny were praised for their courage… though they also received a gentle lecture about wandering into the marsh alone. Later that evening, as lanterns flickered across the treetops, Flo nudged her brother.
“See? Aren’t you glad we didn’t tell anyone first?”
Sonny sighed, but he couldn’t hide his smile. “Maybe. But next time, we plan first.” Flo grinned. “Next time?” He laughed softly. “There’s always a next time with you.” And as the fireflies danced around them, the two siblings sat side by side — the spark and the steady flame — ready for whatever adventure awaited them next.
Till Next Time……..
